The European Space Agency does not intend to send astronauts to the Chinese space station.

Published: 2023-01-23

The European Space Agency (ESA) has no intention of sending its astronauts to China's Tiangong space station. The TASS news agency writes about this, citing the words of the head of the ESA, Josef Aschbacher.

“At present, ESA does not have the financial and political capacity to participate in the Chinese orbital station project,” Aschbacher said during a recent press conference. He also noted that the agency is now busy fulfilling its obligations to work on the International Space Station (ISS).

Recall that in mid-2018, China invited UN member countries to cooperate on the basis of its national space station. In 2021, the Chinese authorities announced that 17 states had shown interest in conducting joint research on the Tiangong space station. At the end of last year, China's Manned Flight Program Administration announced that it had received offers for the participation of foreign astronauts in missions at the Tiangong station.
