Peugeot Inception: electric car concept with 800 km range and rectangular folding steering wheel.

Published: 2023-01-07

The transnational concern Stellantis did not stop at CES 2023 by demonstrating the interior of the future Chrysler electric car and the RAM Revolution electric pickup concept. The interests of the European line of models were supposed to be represented by the Peugeot Inception concept, some of the solutions of which will be used in the brand’s serial electric car, which will go into series by 2025.

The serial car will have to be based on the STLA Large platform, which allows you to create the largest electric vehicles of the concern. The Peugeot Inception concept, with a body length of about five meters, has a height of no more than 1.34 meters. It is built on a platform with a power plant voltage of 800 V and allows you to replenish up to 150 km of power reserve in five minutes, provided you use a high-speed DC charging station.

The capacity of the traction battery is 100 kWh, and Peugeot assures that it will last for 800 km of power reserve. At least the distance from Paris to Marseille or from Brussels to Berlin should be covered by the car without recharging. The all-wheel drive transmission with two electric motors with a combined output of 500 kW (680 hp) is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in less than three seconds.

Perhaps one of the main highlights of the quirky interior, with the exception of the strange Halo Cluster annular display in place of the instrument panel, is the rectangular-shaped Hypersquare steering wheel retractable under the front panel, on the hub of which there is a touch screen. In autopilot mode, it hides under the front panel, and a wide panoramic display emerges from its depths, which is used by passengers and the driver for entertainment or work on the road while the machine is controlled by automation.

The Peugeot Inception concept showed other unusual technical solutions. For example, the side moldings on the doors are capable of transmitting text messages to other people. Most likely, this kind of "marquee" will be in demand by taxi services, if it survives to be serially implemented. The windows of the electric car have a special coating used by NASA astronauts on the visors of their space suits.
