Rumors: Apple has suspended the development of the new iPhone SE.

Published: 2023-01-07

The next-generation iPhone SE may not be released in 2024, said analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who traditionally bases his forecasts on information from Apple suppliers. According to the expert, the company canceled plans to launch the production of a new affordable smartphone.

Apple has suspended work on a new device due to the fact that low-cost models are selling worse than expected in the company, the analyst is sure. There were also fears that the rise in price of the entire lineup would make the iPhone SE less attractive to buyers for whom price is a key criterion. The refusal to release the budget iPhone model in 2024 will not come as a surprise: back in March last year, the Nikkei Asian Review, citing its own sources, reported that plans for the release of the third generation iPhone SE were reduced by 10 million units - and this decision was made a few weeks after his announcement. There is not much information about the actual sales of the model, but if it really does not bring enough money, Apple may well slow down work on the new version.

However, this news may please Qualcomm, which produces 5G modems for the iPhone. The fact is that Apple is working on its own version of the component, and it planned to test it on the new iPhone SE, in order to then introduce its own modem into the main line. However, the company has not yet achieved much success in this direction, and the iPhone 16 of the 2024 model can again receive Qualcomm modems. And this is not Apple's only recent failure: it recently became known that the company had to abandon ray tracing in A16 Bionic chips at the last moment - the graphics subsystem consumed too much power and caused overheating.
