Twitter alternative apps stopped working.Published: 2023-01-13
Users of third-party Twitter clients such as Tweetbot, Echofon, and Twitterrific have reported issues that have yet to be identified. In particular, it became impossible to access the Twitter system and channels with their help. The developers of Tweetbot, Echofon and Twitterrific, confirmed the problems and noted that it is not yet known what caused the crash. “Tweetbot and other clients are having trouble logging into Twitter. We contacted the technical support of the social network for more details, but did not receive a response. We hope this is a temporary glitch and will update you as soon as we know more,” tweeted Tapbots, developer of the Tweetbot client. “We are aware that Twitterrific is having problems communicating with the Twitter servers. We don't know what the reason is yet, but we're trying to figure it out. Please stay tuned and we apologize," the app's Twitter account said. Blogger Charlie Poppington noted that Twitter may have made some changes, as when trying to log in using the Echofon client, an error message is displayed instead of the application authorization page. “I hope that everything that happens on Twitter is just some kind of automatic anti-spam bot that incorrectly pauses the relevant applications,” says Tweetbot’s Paul Hadad. He told TechCrunch that all API requests from apps are failing. Users also complained about being unable to access Twitter using clients such as Fenix, Twitpane, Feather, and Talon. So right now the only way to access Twitter is through the official client or website. After Elon Musk took over Twitter, the company shut down many developer programs, including the Twitter Toolbox. Amir Shevat, former head of developer platforms, told TechCrunch that the new leadership has damaged developer confidence. |
