Elon Musk assembles a team to develop ChatGPT competitor.

Published: 2023-02-28

Billionaire Elon Musk has begun forming a team to develop an alternative to ChatGPT, OpenAI's viral chatbot. The irony is that Musk was once one of the founders of OpenAI, but now does not own shares of the company and is not involved in managing its assets.

As The Information reports, it is known about the proposal to AI researcher Igor Babushkin, who previously worked in the DeepMind AI laboratory of the Alphabet group, to form his own team to work in the new laboratory. The publication refers to sources "directly aware" of Musk's initiative.

As you know, Musk co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 and served as chairman of the company until 2018. Amid a possible conflict of interest, he left the position and severed ties with OpenAI.

According to The Independent, Musk and Babushkin have discussed forming a team, but the project is still in its early stages. In addition, there are no specific product development plans. According to the publication, Babushkin said that he has not yet officially joined the project.

Musk has previously spoken out about chatbots like ChatGPT, stressing that they could pose one of the biggest risks for the future. However, the businessman acknowledged that the project has great prospects and opportunities.
